Randy’s Gear

1994-1997

  • Fender Princeton Chorus amplifier
  • 2 Custom guitars built by Richard McKlusky and T.V.Jones

Comment: Richard and Tom both worked on Randy’s emerald green guitar for a couple of months. Randy was in love with the guitar and it was the only one at the time with that color. That guitar went through 2 necks 2 Floyd Rose bridges 3 fret jobs before it died. The guitar was named Ashley because the body was made of swamp-ash wood. Luckily Randy has another guitar named Tiffany, an exact duplicate except for the color is blue with a swamp-ash body with a flammed maple top. Both guitars were loaded with Floyd Rose tremolos and EMG pick-ups. Tiffany is only used for studio work. Randy says, "I can’t risk losing that guitar at any cost."

1998-2002

  • Hughes & Kettner Attax 100 Head
  • Custom Ampeg 4×12 Cabinet
  • Hughes & Kettner Tube Factor
  • Several Boss Overdrive and Distortion Pedals
  • Johnson Millennium J-Station
  • Line6 Spider 2×10
  • Marshall 4×12 Cabinet w/Celestion speakers
  • Marshall Jmp1 Pre-amp
  • Rocktron Intelefex Effects Processor
  • Rocktron Velocity 100 Power Amplifier
  • BBE Sonic Maximizer
  • Furman Rack Rider
  • Fender Princeton Chorus
  • A Whole Bunch Of Other Stuff
  • Several Ibanez RG320 Guitars and Seven String Guitars
  • Ibanez Classical Guitar

Comment: When he started production on the Hostile Environment CD Randy had to change the guitar tone completely. Randy relied totally on his Rack system and Hughes & Kettner for the amps. As for guitars, 98% of the work was done with his collection of Ibanez guitars. These guitars are extremely dependable and affordable according to Randy. The other 2% of the guitar tracks were done with the Tiffany custom guitar and an ESP/M2 LTD guitar. IMPORTANT: You don’t have to have a ton of guitars or amps to make a good recording. You do need to have a well-rehearsed band, a good engineer and a positive attitude. "I was really lucky to have these things and the gear", Randy says. "Any equipment will work so long as each piece of equipment is in proper working order."
