Every Kid I knew growing up had role models or heros. Some had Michael Jordan, others had Wayne Gretzky, and so on,and so on.Growing up dealing with going to a new junior high school trying to fit in with everyone, and my parents getting a divorce it was pretty tough for an 11 year old.I wasn’t that much into sports, and I couldn’t relate to much of what other kids were doing. Then one day after school I came home and watched MTV.There it was,a defining moment that would change the rest of my life.I already knew how to play guitar a little bit.But I never really took it seriously until that day. There was a video from David Lee Roth.It was for the song Yankee Rose. And even though it was just a video for most people,it made me make a huge decision.I wanted to play guitar more than ever.It seemed like fitting in with other kids, and the problems an 11 year old had didn’t matter too much to me.I had to learn everything about Steve Vai’s playing.Eventually I learned parts of his songs, and it made me practice a lot.In my teens it was still all about Steve Vai,and now it still is.

I got to meet him and get my picture taken with him at the Namm Show in 1995.He was the coolest guy you could meet.He signed every autograph for his fans.I saw him play a bunch of times, and was blown away everytime. He always captured his audience. If it wasn’t for Steve Vai I would not be where I am today.
